Is Online Sports Betting Legal in Pennsylvania As Of 2025

You can absolutely legally bet on sports in PA if you know where to place your bets. The Federal Wire Act and PASPA have ensured that there are not going to be any type of online or offline state licensed bookmakers to bet with, but that does not eliminate all options for residents of Pennsylvania.

We have a guide for understanding Pennsylvania Sports Betting Laws which goes into great detail on this topic. The key to legally betting on sports in PA is to limit your wagering to only those destinations which are legally licensed, compliance certified and subject to a respected and genuine governing jurisdiction that is located outside the borders of the United States.

Most state, federal and International gambling laws are really focused on protecting gamblers from unlicensed and unregulated gambling operations. Keeping your efforts restricted only to sportsbooks that are operating legitimately within the industry eliminates 99% of your legal concerns.

The sportsbooks recommended in this guide are all certified and regulated, and licensed to provide their wagering services to players around the world, including those in Pennsylvanita.

You can take a look at the state's laws and statutes on the official Pennsylvania Legislature website.

What Types of Betting Lines are Available at Pennsylvania Sports Betting Apps?

The options that are listed in this guide were required to provide a substantial range of betting lines in order to be considered for inclusion on our site. To meet this requirement, they had to cover all of the popular sports, such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, hockey, tennis, boxing, motor sports, MMA, and other mainstream categories. They also must include at least a few less mainstream options, such as swimming, diving, surfing, cricket, rugby, darts, Olympic Sports, cycling, boating, and other categories that are considered off the beaten path.

We don't require, but do prefer that the brands include some non-sports related betting options, such as betting on reality competition TV shows, celebrity gossip, politics or current events.

After the betting lines check out, we take a look at their wagering options and feature set. We want to see a nice selection of wagering options, from the traditional moneyline, totals, futures and over/under bets to more complex options such as various types of parlays, if bets, proposition bets, teasers, pleasers, and things of that nature. We really lean towards a brand that offers creative team and players props as well.

For features, we like to see a strong and user friendly interface, live betting and a well designed mobile sportsbook application that is compatible with the primary mobile operating systems. Not every single one of these options and features is found at every single one of our recommended sports books at all times, but they all offer a very comprehensive betting experience.

Betting Trends of Popular Pennsylvania Sports Teams

The Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of those teams I not only enjoy watching, but I also make good money betting the overs. Ever since Chip Kelly came over from Oregon, the Eagles are an offensive minded up and down team that put's up big numbers and a lot of points. And frankly they are just an exciting team to watch.

The Eagles were 9-7 in 2014 ATS while the over's hit a whopping 68.8% of the time. I'm a firm believer in what have you done for me lately. So betting the overs this year is a no brainer for me.

Additional betting trends to consider for the eagles based on last year's performance include the following:

4-2 after a loss.
5-3 at home.
4-4 away.
7-3 overall as a favorite.
5-2 as home favorite.
2-1 as away favorite.
2-4 overall as the underdog.
0-1 as home underdog.
2-3 as away underdog.

The Philadelphia 76ers

Once upon a time, the Philadelphia 76ers used to be a very fun team to watch. With Allen Iverson and a fast-paced offense, the fellas from Philly could really score in bunches. However, over the past few years, the 76ers have struggled in win-loss and are basically .500 ATS, or "against the spread." Sorry, but anyone banking on a 50/50 shot ATS isn't betting very wisely. The 76ers were 41-41 last year ATS, which isn't that totally bad once you consider their overall record was 18-64 with a 10-game losing streak.

With a young roster and a coach who's all but admitted to tanking, Philly's best betting stats of the season were 2-2 as home favorites. After a win, they were 4-14, and after a loss they were 14-49. Unfortunately, there's nothing much to count on there.

Will the trends change any this season upcoming? Unfortunately, we predict that the 76ers will again be a bottom-ranked team. Perhaps not 30th in the NBA, but maybe 28th. Either way, they're not a good option for betting your hard-earned money.

The Pittsburgh Steelers

When I was a kid just getting into sports and betting, it was all about the Steel Curtain defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers. With six Super Bowl wins, Pittsburgh is the winningest team of all time, and following them game-to-game during the season isn't a half bad way to go about your betting habits.

Predicting a 1st place finish for the Steelers in the AFC North is a gimme, and their overall rank should fall right around #13. They were 9-8 ATS, actually compiling some decent stats such as going 4-1 after a loss (don't make Big Ben angry, is the moral), and going 6-6 as favorites and 2-2 as dogs. As home underdogs, they were 100% ATS, 80% after the loss, and 60% in non-division games. Now, we won't say they're a lock, but just wait until Pittsburgh loses a game and you're more than 3:1 to win with them the following week.

The Steelers' receiving corp is simply getting better. Big Ben is healthier. Their division is a little weaker. And to top it off, they will have a running game this year. We can see them being a solid 11-5 ATS in the regular season alone this season.

Here are a few trends you might find interesting.

4-1 after suffering a loss
3-2 as an underdog
5-4 as home favorites
4-4 as the away team
7-6 in conference games
6-4 in non-division games
